Mushroom Leek Slices

At a recent potluck gathering my friend Veena, made & served these delicious slices of French Bread topped with mushroom and leeks. I enjoyed them so much that I created my own version of it.

Use any bread of your choice. I used wholewheat bread that I had actually baked myself. It should work with most breads or rolls. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz. button mushrooms or any kind
  • 1 stalk leek
  • 2 tblsp. teaspoon olive oil
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp. crushed black pepper pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • salt to taste, about ¼tsp.

Method

  • Wash leek, thoroughly, ensure that all water is clear before slicing leeks in fine rounds
  • Rinse and wipe mushrooms with paper towel. Slice finely
  • Heat oil, then sauté mushrooms & leeks
  • Add garlic & crushed black pepper. Stir and cook quickly
  • Add salt, then keep aside
  • Slice bread in ½" thick slices
  • Lightly butter the sliced bread. Top with about 1 tblsp. of topping
  • Place in hot oven to just warm bread before serving
